There is an ongoing trend of fitted and sexy expensive wedding dresses as well as corset wedding dresses, but if you are looking for dresses, then there are a lot of styles that you can try. Just because you are planning to wear a modest wedding gown, it does not mean that you cannot look glamorous and beautiful. Great style and modesty can indeed go together.

If you look at Ivanka Trump’s wedding dress designed by Vera Wang, you will see that it is in fact a modest wedding dress which is modern as well. It has lace sleeves that add just the right bit of style and also covers her bare shoulders. You too can take inspiration from Ivanka’s dress and have a dress with lace sleeves and a full gown. Lace spells old world charm and glamor and will look great on you. Shop during the winter to get great designs of dresses. Boutiques and fashion houses usually have wedding dress designs with full sleeves, high collars and modest necklines that are suitable for the winter.

This will give you an idea of what designs of dresses are in style. For plus sized brides, wearing plus size modest wedding dresses is a very good idea, since strapless modern dresses don’t look good on them. Plus sized brides can also choose a strapless wedding dress and ask a seamstress to make a bolero jacket or short cap sleeves that can be attached to the wedding gown. This will help you to convert a strapless dress into a modest one.
Buying a dress for your wedding will be costly. dresses on the hundreds of beaches, and up to ten thousand or over, you can rest assured that requires some consideration. How about your mother’s bridal dress? If it is sheltered well, you can enjoy a try. Maybe strapless wedding dress is as well very suitable for you. You mother will love and the choice of look in her wedding dress. If your mother doesn’t caution, you can make some changes you enjoy. Shop around and get a nice second-hand wedding gown. Those dresses was probably a used only once, nevertheless they are much cheaper than the new dresses. Many brides will sell your wedding reception dresses after the wedding day to replace the honeymoon days.

Vintage dresses in particular are a charming way to make a style statement. This article will take you on a fashion journey through the early decades of the 20th century, and will suggest fashionable ways of wearing vintage dresses in modern-day occasions.

Vintage dresses and style changes from the 1920s to the 1960s

You could tell the “age” of a vintage dress by examining its style. In the 1920s, dresses tended to have a straight bodice, accompanied by jazzy fringe skirts that came down to just above the knee. Cleavage lines were rounded or straight, and sat up high in the chest. Tulle and satin are common materials in dresses dating from these years. The most popular colours were cream, ivory or black, with adornments in contrasting tones.

Vintage dresses from the 30s cling to the bust and the waist, accentuating feminine curves. This is evident in the most representative dress from that decade: the bias cut dress, a flattering figure-hugging gown. Modest cleavage lines gave way to halter necks, and tulle was replaced by lame, chiffon and silk. Predominant colours included silver and pastel tones.

In the 40s, dresses were characterised for being simple and functional. Decorations were kept to a minimum to reflect the mood of the decade. Dresses followed an A-line, were cinched at the waist, and featured shoulder pads. The most popular fabrics included wool, cotton and tweed.

The 50s most iconic dresses feature circular and flowing calf-length skirts and, above all, tightly cinched waists. Tulle and chiffon made a comeback, and synthetic materials like nylon and acrylic gained adepts. The most popular patterns included spots, flowers and stripes.

During the 1960s, dresses sported bright colours as well as pastels. The shift dress is the most representative garment of this decade, with its sleeveless geometrical design. And of course, it was during the 60s that the mini-dress made history. These dresses were usually made of velvet or cotton.

Modern dresses combine elements from various past decades. Halter necks, mini-dresses, and soft, clingy fabrics are a revival of bygone days. Modern dresses tend to be colourful and reflect the lifestyle of the various contemporary urban cultures.

Modern fashion lends itself to be combined with vintage items. For example, you could wear a 1930s vintage gown to an evening party, which would surely turn you into the centre of attention. Some of the 30s dresses can even be worn as a modern wedding dress, adding a touch of glamour and sophistication to such an important occasion.

1940s vintage dresses can be worn with towering platform heels for an ultra-feminine office look. You could also offset the generally dark colours and heavy fabrics used in 40s dresses by wearing them with bright-coloured accessories.

1950s halter neck dresses are the perfect garment to take on a summer holiday, and a 1960s vintage dress will make you stand out from the crowd if you wear it to a wedding.

It is obvious that dresses from the olden days still have a long life left in them. With some imagination, they can become major allies in creating a unique fashion style.

If you love clothes and accessories and enjoy pairing them to create different outfits — or even costumes to fit a specific theme — you can take part in modern dress up games. Regardless of your age, all you need is a little bit of playfulness and you can play dress up, too.
Dress Up with Your Own Clothes
Dress up with your own clothes. Try on pieces of your clothing that you’d never put together under ordinary circumstances. Consider having a theme or an inspiration for the look you’re creating. Clip out magazine pages that show styles you especially like and challenge yourself to recreate these looks using the clothes you have in your closet.
Clothing Swap
Hold a big clothing swap with your friends. Schedule a whole day with your closest friends, preferably those who have body types and sizes similar to yours. Have everyone bring some of their brightest, flashiest, most fun clothes. See what wild outfits you can create by mixing and matching every piece. Make sure you have a full-length mirror available so you can regularly check how you look in each new ensemble. Finish up with a photo session of all of you wearing wacky, flamboyant outfits.
Online Dress Up Games
There are plenty of websites where you can find dress up games for free. These games come in a wide variety of themes, ranging from Date Night and College Life Dress Up to Emo and Wizard Fashion. These fun, modern dress up games cost you nothing and you get hundreds upon hundreds from which to choose. Because all the clothes and characters are computerized, you get clear images that make the characters you dress up stand out. Websites you might find interesting include dress up games and girl dress up.
Magnetic Paper Dolls
Try old-school paper dolls with a twist. You can buy magnetic dolls to stick on your refrigerator. They’re not just toys, but can be used to decorate any metal surface. You can buy them at online stores such as Fat Brain Toys and Just Like Me Paper Dolls.

A day of observation: What I learned

I had started a new phase of my career at Cosmetics Depot; I was brought on board as the marketing & sales manager & to create a Pro Division, for industry professionals. I knew that I had a few weeks to learn the store, the demographic market and the base clientele. I have never worked in a store or at a makeup counter before. So to say the least the first few days on the job were in observation. I was bound and determined to learn all I could about a retail store in a few weeks time.what I learned was more than I ever imagined. I learned about women, all ages, and all having the same passion for beauty that I have. What a mind blowing experience!
My first Day:
I met two women I guess in their late 70′s; out for a day of shopping, they were so into the products that it was amazing. They said guess our ages??? Come on Guess, so I said Oh, about 36? They laughed and said nope almost 80, both of us. I told them how great they looked and asked them what they used and why (women love to share) what an education I got. Then they asked me about makeup bases, so off we went for a lesson on liquid bases and heavy coverage foundations, when and why to use them. I learned that at almost 80 we will want to look our best, something I am now looking forward to.

Next a woman came in with a white vinyl cap, very long blonde hair and false eyelashes that beat the band, LOVED HER! She was in her 60′s. She said she did her makeup everyday as soon as she got up, never left the house without her lashes. She was very retro 60′s….but it worked for her. She comes in every week for something. Ardel lashes are her thing, she and I tested every glitter shadow in the store. She is a trip. I adore her!

Then 2 Gals visiting from Atlanta came in, they walked around picking up things and putting them down, so I walked over to them and asked if I could be of help, I told them I am a makeup artist, their faces lit up, can you show us what will work on our skin color, they were dark skinned younger women. So we played with the colors, and I showed them to make shadow show up on them to use a light shadow base, they were thrilled! They bought many colors they never knew would work on them, now they know about eye shadow base….Who knew that women didn’t know????

Another group of 5 women came in, so I walked over to them and said what ya’ll up to??? The ring leader, a smartly coifed brunette in cruise wear said they were a group from New Jersey who all came in today and tomorrow are taking a cruise together, most of them had been friend for over 30 years. They were all talking about some of the products they loved, then one piped in and said that the texture of all their skin was getting weird as they were getting older, I explained about Micro-Dermabrasion and each woman bought one, they were teasing each other about how one was going to look younger than the other, they were like a flurry of butterflys when the left.

Then a woman came over to me and said, I over heard you are a makeup artist, can you help me? Sure I said, what are you looking for, well a new look she said, at my age I would like to have a new look( she had to of been 78 years old) ok, we walked around I showed her bases, blushes, liners, well almost everything, she told me her Daughter and Grand Daughter were coming to visit her and asked if I would do the same for them, sure I said, I am in the office tomorrow but will be in on Friday. She thanked me and left. Another woman walked over and said that woman took up almost 45 minutes of your time: and didn’t buy a thing! What nerve! I told her she would be back and it was my pleasure to work with her. I was having fun…I really was having fun.

Then the after school group of 16 to 19 year old Girls started to arrive, they asked about bronzers, I took them over to the bronzers and watched as they dug the brushes into them My blood ran cold, I said whoa, that not how you apply them! Let me show you! I did, ( I rescued the brushes) and the next thing I knew there were about 6 to 10 women standing watching what I was doing and what I showing these young gals. They all wanted to know how to apply the bronzers. I didn’t know that most women do not know how to properly use products!

There are certain types of shops that appear in every high street in Britain and one of these is the beauty parlour.

Many retail outlets have been swallowed up by competition from the big out of town supermarkets. Examples of this include butchers and bakers and grocery shops with the result that the supermarkets hold the monopoly on such produce and the town centres get emptier and emptier.

This is such a major concern in Britain that recently the government set up an enquiry to look into the problem. It recently published a report that revealed many towns have as many as forty per cent empty and boarded up shops in centres.

Over all the figure is around twelve per cent and there are many obvious concerns about this. There are one or two notable exceptions and as it seems even in times of a recession women and some men still need the services of beauty shops these establishments are some of the few shops that still seem to thrive.

Fortunately the supermarkets do not seem to believe there is sufficient demand to incorporate beauty salons in the store unlike their move into dry cleaning which has severely damaged the old high street operators.

There is hardly much left for the out of town supermarkets to poach from the high street and even petrol stations in small towns have given up the ghost if a supermarket is nearby.

The only small interest for these empty shops comes from mobile phone retailers, betting shops, coffee bars and charity shops. Rates, rents and parking problems have all contributed to the loss of shops and with town centres looking like ghost towns the retail outlets that do still exist are getting very resentful about the high costs they have to pay the local councils.

Along with beauty shops it seems there is one other service that the supermarkets have not yet laid claim to and that is men’s and women’s hair salons and small corner convenience stores for the little things it is not worth going all the way to the supermarket for.

Just occasionally things can be turned around but it often takes the supreme efforts of new shopkeepers to work very long hours for very little pay to get them off the ground.

Invariably examples like this are achieved by people with a different work outlook and usually are first or second generation immigrants. In the two small villages in our part of middle England the only shops in both villages closed as did the petrol station within a year of a big out of town supermarket opening nearby.

One day an Indian man arrived and started operating a newspaper and milk round from one of the shops and gradually over two years of single handed hard work and very long hours worked out what essentials people needed which did not entail going to the supermarket.

Now both shops are thriving and operated by managers who are all part of the same family and on a fixed wage and the results quite remarkable. The man has bought a house in one of the villages and it seems singlehandedly has revitalised the communities.

Beauty salons London abound in their thousands and it looks like they face a healthy future as long as they keep up with the competition. The beauty business is like many other fashion business and that is they must accept the bread and butter essentials like nail therapy and make up and add extras as demanded whilst all the time keeping up with the latest technological advances.
